Spring has sprung

The days are getting longer and Spring is in the air!  At The Curiosity Approach, we believe that our environments are worthy of the miracles who enter through the doors and that they should reflect this.

"Children are miracles. Believing that every child is a miracle can transform the way we design for children's care. When we invite a miracle into our lives, we prepare ourselves and the environment around us. We may set out flowers or special offerings. We may cleanser ourselves, the space, or our thoughts of everything but the love inside us. We make it our job to create, with reverence and gratitude, a space that is worthy of a miracle!

Action follows thought. We can choose to change. We can choose to design spaces for miracles, not minimums."
-Anita Rui Olds, 1999

The Curiosity Approach is also influenced by the work of Rudolf Steiner.  believing that children should be taught reverence for the natural world and so every classroom should reflect the natural world outside and bring elements of nature within.

Now that Spring is in the air, its time to offer those invitations to learning and bring some zesty yellow and freshness to your provision. Every so often we need to revitalize our children's play space. Carefully look with fresh eyes and give the environment some much need TLC after the long winter months.

Simple hints and tricks to brighten any room are to add fresh flowers!

Daffodils are true sign Spring is in the air, when we see these glorious flowers brightening up any room, home or play space. Use them dotted around your setting, place them as centrepieces as meal times to add a touch of homeliness. Or add them to your entrance and hallways to greet children and parents on arrival.

It is said that first impressions count and that when we add the extra little touches to our Early Years Educational settings, it shows we can go that extra mile for the children in our care too.

Add books to every area. Books do not have to be reserved for the book corner, they can be placed and positioned around your setting to enhance thoughts, ideas and thinking. To allow children to research and find out more. to be curious about something and understand that they can find information and answers in books.

Natural resources, springtime is a time of new beginnings and changes in nature. Embrace these changes and incorporate them into your continuous provision. Extend on current interests, just by adding some fresh new natural resources. Go on a nature walk and bring back some blossom or dandelion heads.  Create a tinker tray of bright zesty Spring items.

Cosy and comfortable add a little colour with fresh cushions and throws,  using colours such as green and yellow really brings Spring Time to life and makes environments look fresh and vibrate without being too overstimulating.

Get Outdoors As The Great Margaret McMillian would say "The best classroom and the richest cupboard is roofed only by the sky"

In our Springtime Garden

What a lovely time of year, time of year, time of year
What a lovely time of year, in our springtime garden
See the flowers swing and sway, swing and sway, swing and sway
See the flowers swing and sway, in our springtime garden.

Spring

I love spring
Spring is new
It’s new blades of grass
It’s rain on a lass
It’s violets and rain
It’s a wood-scented lane
It’s a new bird song
It’s days growing long
It’s a tree in bud and puddles of mud
It’s birds in a tree and buzz from a bee
It’s kites in the sky
It’s spring. That’s why
I love spring.

What every you do, do with reverence and respect for nature and the children within our care. Let the buds and blossoms grow.
