Building in the rain
Winter
Our British weather provides us with s many different learning opportunities especially with all of the rain that we have. We offer a variety of resources and loose parts outside for the children to discover and here there us the space to build and be creative on much larger scales.
Here some simple wooden blocks have been well used by the children as you can see, they are very much a loved and treasured resource. This little girl decided to build across the puddle, what a wonderful idea! Completely child initiated and her creation went all across the floor. It was fascinated to see the water levels rise each time a block was added to the puddle, what an utterly creative and scientific approach in her thinking.
Do you use block outside? If not could some be added to enhance the children's play? Blocks can be quite expensive to buy but you can pick up some pre loved block play items online such as through Facebook market place or from car boots or better still go to your local timber yard and ask for any offcuts that can be sanded down. *we do not recommend MDF wood as it if full of chemicals in the glue
